Do you know about the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, one of our most awesome federal civil rights laws? The IDEA ensures services to children with disabilities throughout the nation, as it governs how states and public agencies provide early intervention, special education and related services to more than 6.5 million eligible infants, toddlers, children and youth with disabilities. Which means that if a child has a disability, no matter how minor or profound, the school district must provide whatever additional services are necessary to provide an optimal education for that child. Can you imagine trying to pass a law like this in today's Congress?
Join Jack Tuckner & Deborah O'Rell as they interview one of the most prominent IDEA attorneys in the country, George Zelma, Esq., whose practice focuses on special education law, representing families of children with special needs at impartial hearings, suspension hearings, manifestation reviews and in United States district court.
George breaks it down and explains the complex law in lay terms so anyone can understand the rights of all children to a quality education, and why that saves money for all of us and is good for America to boot (not to mention the right thing to do morally, ethically and practically.
